Jim and Wayne's Fabulous Adventures

So, we're off on another adventure! And, like all our adventures in the past, there's been a lot of thought into where we're going, what we're seeing and doing, and how it's all going to happen. Maybe too much thought. But, then again, this time we've managed to keep a few days here and there without any real solid plans - no hotel reservations, just broad ideas about where we might go, and what me might do between point "a" and point "b"... I'm setting this thing up in advance so I can (if all goes well) simply open up the blog, add photos and a few thoughts, and not spend every evening of our holiday doing this instead of being there! Wherever "there" is!

Cheers!

And finally... Paris

Nous sommes à Paris!

So, we finished our trip in Paris... like icing on the cake.  Paris is a magical place full of sights, sounds, and enough of everything else to fill a month of non-stop fun.  But, it was the end of our month in Europe and we were done.  Of course we were very busy here going from sight to sight.  But unlike our last trip to Paris, we spent as much time as possible enjoying cafes (café crème, bière pression, vins français, pâtisseries...) along the way.  We also caught up with friends we hadn't seen in over 15 years - just happened to be in Paris at the same time!  Small world.

Started off in the Louvre...
Venus di Milo

Winged Victory

Botticelli's  Portrait de Jeune Homme

Jim & Wayne and crowd enjoying a little Leonardo da Vinci painting...

Mona who???  Some say this painting is disappointing because it's so small.  Really?!?  No disappointment whatsoever.

Michelangelo's Captif

Antonio Canova - Psyche Ranimee par le Baiser de l'Amour (Psyche revived by the kiss of Love, 1793, marble, Paris, Louvre, Dept. Italian sculptures)

Antinous from the Braschi Collection 2nd century CE

then wound our way through the streets of Paris, finding our way to the Musee d'Orsay...

At the Musée d'Orsay

Edgar Degas, Petite danseuse de 14 ans, (Small Dancer Aged 14) also referred to as Grande danseuse habilée

Vincent Van Gogh self portrait (1889)

Starry Night Over the Rhone (1888) is a Vincent van Gogh painting next to the river on the edge of Arles at nighttime

Jules Coutan's Les chasseurs d'aigles (Eagle Hunter)

Auguste Rodin, The Kiss
Henri de Toulouse Lautrec,
La femme au boa noir (Woman with Black Boa), 1892

Henri de Toulouse Lautrec, Dancing at the Moulin Rouge: La Goulue (1870-1927)

then on our way to the Rodin Museum...

Following are various close ups of portions of Rodin's Burghers of Calais

And this was just our first two days in Paris!

Notre Dame Cathedral gargoyles

Sunday Market near the La Motte-Picquet – Grenelle Metro
